Publication in Genome Research
The beginning of this month marks the publication of the comprehensive article in Volume 12, Issue 4, page 555 in the April edition of
Genome Research entitled "Annotated Expressed Sequence Tags and cDNA Microarrays for Studies of Brain and Behavior in the Honey Bee". The report,
outlining the ongoing insighful research of the bee brain at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in collaboration with other universities, is the
focus of this month's edition as it is featured on the cover of the magazine. It involves the efforts of the following individuals in Bioinformatics and
other departments: Charles W. Whitfield, Mark R. Band, Maria F. Bonaldo, Charu G. Kumar, Lei Liu, Jose R. Pardinas, Hugh M. Robertson, M. Bento Soares,
and Gene E. Robinson. One may access both the full text and
abstract versions.

Honeybee EST Website Featured in Science
The Bioinformatics Unit is proud to announce that a feature article on the Honeybee EST Project has appeared in the NetWatch section
on page 1607 in the March 1, 2002 Volume 295 publication of Science. In the featured article entitled "Tagging the Honeybee Genes",
editor Mitch Leslie highlights the unique functionality of the site and its useful database of expressed sequence tags. Leslie also mentions
University of Illinois neurobiologist Gene Robinson's statement that "the collection will provide signposts for the eventual sequencing
of the entire genome."

NSF 2010 Plant Genome Program
NSF 2010 Plant Genome Program has funded a project titled "Functional
Genomics of Arabidopsis P450s" at University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. The project is led by Professor Mary Schuler of Department
of Cellular and Structural Biology. Dr. Lei Liu is one of the Co-Investigator
in the project. The Bioinformatics Unit will be solely responsible for the
development of databases and software tools for the project. The total fund
for the project is approximately $3.6 million for four years starting October,
